Ocumeda extends eye care at the optician
Ocumeda, one of the leading tele-ophthalmology platforms in Europe and provider of medical eye care in the optical business, is consistently expanding its service portfolio.

At Opti 2026, the company presented three new products that enable opticians to further strengthen their role as the first point of contact for eye health - from preventive care and diagnostics to coordinated follow-up treatment.
Eye Check-Up Plus - for extended medical assessment of the eye
With the established eye check-up, Ocumeda already enables opticians to offer medical eye care directly in the optical store. The new Eye Check-Up Plus now expands this offer to include an examination of the anterior segment of the eye, thereby supplementing the previous assessment of the back of the eye. In addition to fundus images, health data and other measurements, images of the anterior segment of the eye and the lens of the eye can now also be included in the medical report by ophthalmologists. A total of five additional anatomical regions will be assessed: Eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, iris and crystalline lens.
The extended examination enables the additional detection of abnormalities, such as opacities, eyelid malpositions or wing fur, which could remain undetected in a non-medical examination. This creates a comprehensive overall picture of the eye. Opticians are free to decide which service they want to offer their customers in their store - an upgrade is possible at any time and is technically seamless. The Eye Check-Up Plus offers the opportunity for further differentiation and to expand the service portfolio with a holistic, medically sound preventive concept.
Ocumeda Care Network - for local care networks and better follow-up treatment
With the Care Network, Ocumeda is also expanding its range of further care services in a targeted manner - particularly for customers with conspicuous findings. In addition to the already established appointment support, the platform now offers opticians the opportunity to actively integrate existing partnerships with regional ophthalmologists into the service. This enables opticians to support their customers with prompt referral to medical treatment. This creates local care networks that simplify and accelerate appointment processes, strengthen local cooperation and sustainably improve care for customers. Opticians and their customers are already benefiting from Ocumeda's broad network of ophthalmologists.
Ocumeda Empower - for the empowerment of opticians as the first point of contact for medical eye care
Ocumeda is also making targeted investments in the further development of partner opticians in order to sustainably strengthen the provision of optical products. Among other things, Ocumeda Empower combines a comprehensive range of training and further education courses via the Ocumeda Academy, high-quality marketing material for online and offline channels, practical support for optimal customer care and employee motivation as well as automated re-invitations of customers at the recommended preventive care interval. There are also individual consulting and coaching formats to successfully establish the preventive care offering. The aim is to enable opticians to provide their customers with professional and communicative support on health issues relating to the eye and to actively integrate preventive care into the consultation process.
An integrated approach to modern eye care
With the Eye Check-Up Plus, the Ocumeda Care Network and Ocumeda Empower, Ocumeda is pursuing a clear goal: to provide high-quality medical eye care in a holistic, low-threshold and networked way - directly at the local optician. At Opti 2026, Ocumeda showed how opticians can further expand their central role in prevention and at the same time make a measurable contribution to better ophthalmological care.
