Guided tour of the print shop - a look behind the scenes of the Swiss optician

On Friday, January 23, we welcomed our customers and visitors to an exciting tour of the print shop in Flawil. The tour, which lasted around 1.5 hours, was led by Yvonne Gadoni from Key Account Management and offered an impressive insight into the creation of a print product - from the first editorial step to the finished edition.

The tour began in the prepress department, where our employees clearly explained to the guests how content is processed and prepared for printing. The transparent presentation of the processes and the opportunity to ask questions directly to the specialists were particularly appreciated. The visitors showed great interest and were happy to learn more about this often invisible part of the production process.

A particular highlight was the insight into the Swiss optician's preparation for printing. The guests were able to see step by step which stages a print edition goes through before it finally ends up in the reader's letterbox. The tour also took them past the proofreading department, where they could see how carefully and precisely every detail is checked.

The tour then led to the print shop, where visitors were able to see the large machines live in action. The printing plates also aroused great interest: These are process-free and do not require any chemical development, which saves water, chemicals and energy. They can be used over many printing runs and can be collected and fully recycled at the end of their life, with the aluminum being melted down again and used for new plates or other aluminum products. This made it clear how important sustainability and recycling are in the production process.

The proximity to the machines and the direct insight into the printing process left a lasting impression on the visitors. They were impressed by the technology, the efficiency and the interaction of the individual work steps.

After the tour, the afternoon ended with an aperitif in a cozy atmosphere. This provided an opportunity for personal discussions and an intensive exchange with our customers.

It was a great pleasure for us to show how the Swiss Optician, which our customers receive every month, is created. Behind every issue is a dedicated, professional team that works with a great deal of passion and expertise. The tour was a successful event and a great end to an informative and inspiring afternoon.
