Exalto reinterprets its bestseller

The steepest slope in the world has a 98 percent gradient and skiers are constantly setting new speed records on it. 98P is also the name of Exalto's successful model.

With the addition of the 21-24 to the 98P range, the label from the French Jura once again keeps its promise. For this model variant, the brand makes no compromises in terms of finesse: the extra-flat hinge, which is so smooth and extremely comfortable, is once again a major advantage.

The fronts are made of titanium, which is known for its durability and incredible lightness. The amazing upper edge of the arch is beveled and has a brushed or elegantly colored effect. This creates sleek centerpieces in contemporary shapes. For the temples, this line pays homage to the collection's favorite finishes: carbon, tortoiseshell, horn, grid, brushed.

98P - the revival is characterized by elegance, lightness and a sporty touch.

The idea of changing the world can be overwhelming

"Are you full of doubt and confusion? Don't know how, when and where to start? But the secret is to just start. You don't need to know everything, you just need to commit to becoming the person who can make a difference." This is what the environmental organization PlasticBank writes on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

"It is the courage and the attempt that makes us the change, the goal, the solution, the movement. It's about all of us coming together to play our part in the one story of life. The sooner each and every one of us becomes that, the better the story will be for all of us."

Over the past ten years, the organization has prevented more than 80 million kilograms of plastic from entering the ocean, the equivalent of 4 billion plastic bottles. This achievement is a collective effort by all members of the collection community, branch owners, processors, partners and employees - Humans of Social Recycling from around the world.

But this is just the beginning...

As Plastic Bank celebrates its 10th anniversary, the mission is evolving from "turning off the tap on ocean plastic" to a broader and deeper movement that empowers people to make the change they want to see in our world. In the pursuit of ocean stewardship, the initiators have recognized that recycling must be done by people. Donations and the purchase of recycled materials alone will not solve the plastic pollution crisis. Humanity needs a lasting and persistent change in behavior that leads us to be mindful when buying, using and disposing of recycled materials.

"Our 10th anniversary marks the beginning of a new era in which we become the Humans of Social Recycling - people who believe that creating a world without waste starts with us. A future where no material is wasted and no human being is wasteful. A future where there is no plastic in the ocean and no poverty. A future in which all people can flourish",

Charmant shop window campaign for Ad Lib in comic style

European comic culture is rooted in France and Belgium. Numerous childhood favorites were created in these countries: The Smurfs, Asterix and Obelix, Tintin, Lucky Luke and many more. The Ad Lib brand from Charmant also has a strong connection to France, as this is where Ad Lib glasses are designed with an extra dose of color. This is why Charmant is dedicating the 2023 Ad Lib window display to the French "Bande dessinée".

The shop window decoration includes the following elements:

2 cardboard stands of the two comic figures (height: 80 cm)

1 banner with comic strip (100 x 140 cm)

1 promo display for 3 pairs of glasses

The Ad Lib comic characters were individually drawn for the label by a Bande-dessin©e artist. Of course, the two are also each wearing a colorful Ad Lib model from the current collection...

Clips: The cool alternative to sunglasses

Summer is coming and with it long, sunny days and the long-awaited vacation. So now is the time once again to make customers aware of the need for proper sun protection. And this applies not only to the skin, but also to the eyes, which are often forgotten.

This naturally raises the question for customers: which sunglasses should I choose this season and which ones are on trend? And this question poses a tricky problem, especially for spectacle wearers who wear their glasses every day, which is not so easy to solve for several reasons. You have to buy prescription sunglasses, which usually costs a lot of money, and then you typically never have them with you when you really need them. The simplest solution you can offer your customers is therefore the sunglasses clip.

They have been a must-have for fashion fans and influencers for some time now. With their unique design, sophisticated colors, easy attachment system (via clip or magnet) and the fresh look they add to prescription glasses, sunglasses clips can quickly upgrade your eyewear collection and style. This season, the popular clips are available from both ESPRIT and, more recently, ELLE.

ELLE. With a cat-eye front, a round front and a slightly square front, there is a wide and attractive selection to suit everyone. All models* feature the same feminine temple design with a graceful little metal detail and are equipped with polarized sun protection lenses.

ESPRIT. The 5 new clip-on models* are made of stainless steel, PPSU and / or TR90 and are available in beautiful classic colors. The clip-ons are high-quality, easy to use and also very practical.

*The models can only be ordered as a set (frame + clip-on)

Oculus and Optiswiss extend strategic partnership

The first contacts date back a few years, when Optiswiss AG, an independent Swiss spectacle lens manufacturer with a production site in Basel, and family-run Oculus GmbH, based in Wetzlar, discussed a possible collaboration. The result of the subsequent intensive joint development work led to the launch of the innovative progressive lens be 4ty+ BIOMETRICS at the end of 2021.

The high-precision measurement technology of the Myopia Master serves as the basis for high-tech optimization, which is now also used in the single-vision and near-comfort range. The biometric parameters obtained are incorporated directly into the production process and guarantee a precisely fitting lens for unique visual comfort. In addition, this technology ensures that the Myopia Master has now been opened up to a further area of application alongside its originally intended use in myopia management, which is also one of the most important pillars of any specialist store - the consultation and fitting of individual progressive lenses.

The fact that the cooperation to date has been an absolute success story for all sides is now sealed by the official commitment on both sides to continue the collaboration in the future and in the long term.

Matthias Kirchhübel, one of the three managing directors at Oculus: "The collaboration with Optiswiss AG is characterized by mutual trust and respect. The path we have taken together has been very successful so far and we are looking forward to the exciting projects that lie ahead of us." says The projects also include joint events, roadshows and webinars that have taken place over the past year and a half and are already being worked on at full speed."

The extension of the partnership is also a reason for Optiswiss to be pleased and at the same time an important signal to the stationary specialist trade. Johannes Schubart, Head of Global Marketing, Product Management & Tools at Optiswiss, comments: "In many respects, Oculus sets the benchmark in the field of ophthalmic and ophthalmologic measurement technology - with a high level of vertical integration in Wetzlar. The combination with our premium products 'Made in Basel' and the exclusive specialist retail strategy are a major asset in overcoming current challenges in the market and a unique differentiation criterion."

When two experts from different fields join forces, completely new opportunities often arise. In any case, it will be interesting to see how the joint journey continues and what concepts and products will emerge from it. The "Expo Days", which were held jointly for the first time at the beginning of 2023, are planned to continue at the end of October, where opticians can find out more about the new products from both companies and other partners in face-to-face meetings.

Am I dreaming - or what exactly am I seeing?

There are plenty of rainy Sundays at the moment. Nevertheless, staying on the sofa doesn't really help. So get out of your comfort zone and into the adventure! There are plenty of exciting museums in this country.

But for once we don't want to marvel at taxidermy or be awestruck by oil paintings from the 16th century. The small but excellent WOW Museum at Werdmühlestrasse 10 in the middle of Zurich offers something completely different and lots of fun, where children (and those who somehow still feel that way) also get their money's worth.

The WOW Museum is full of fun and amazing sensory and perceptual illusions. If you go in here, you can expect anything. The world is upside down here. Distances, proportions and spatial relationships get out of hand, the eye sees things that don't actually exist. An important prop here is your smartphone (make sure you bring your cell phone or iPad!), because everything you see cannot really be explained, is photographed and documented. The extremely friendly WOW staff are on hand to provide support when it comes to finding the best angle of view or arranging the most suitable set-up. The museum combines learning with fun and impressively demonstrates that not everything we see is actually the case; there is not always a right or wrong.

Due to its great popularity, we recommend booking/ticketing in advance, more information can be found at www.wow-museum.ch

To celebrate this anniversary, cerjo is presenting a collection that has been specially designed for the anniversary and is available in a limited edition. A good opportunity to look back on the history and success of this brand, which has been an integral part of Switzerland for half a century.

The company from Del©mont has specialized in the distribution of branded products since it was founded in 1950. Since then, the brand portfolio has been continuously expanded and adapted to the constantly growing demand (BaByliss, Braun, Cuisinart, Le Guide MICHELIN, Terraillon, Sensica). In 1973, cerjo expanded its activities and entered the eyewear sector by founding its own brand of the same name. The aim was to offer as many people as possible high-quality, trendy but reasonably priced sunglasses.

In the early 1990s, the brand diversified with a collection of reading glasses, which were offered in self-service for the first time. In 2018, the "Blue Blocker" eyewear collection was launched, featuring treated lenses to filter out harmful blue-violet light from screens. In 2020, cerjo creates the "Floating" sunglasses collection, floating glasses specially designed for water sports. In 2021, the "Green" eyewear collection was added, which is made from sustainable and recyclable plastic. Optiswiss: How winners measure

This year, Optiswiss held a special prize draw at Opti in Munich: the lucky winners have now been drawn and can use the Myopia Master free of charge for two years. From now on, the siblings Karolin Huff and Bastian Gerber from "Gerber - For Your Eyes" can use all the advantages of this highly innovative measurement technology for their customers and provide them with the best possible advice and care in the areas of myopia management and biometric lens optimization.

The high-end Myopia Masters measuring device ensures early detection and control of myopia (short-sightedness) and also measures - simply and reliably - various biometric parameters such as keratometry, refraction or axial length. Biometric lens fitting and myopia management thus become unique differentiation criteria for opticians.

Biometric parameters in a spectacle lens - BIOMETRICS
In combination with the measurement technology of the Myopia Master, BIOMETRICS technology creates a lens that is as individual as each eye itself. Based on previous precise measurements, the decisive biometric parameters are incorporated into the production of the lens. Eye length, eye pivot point and pupil diameter are taken into account and guarantee a precisely fitting visual experience and comfort.

Alcon expands partnership with Plastic Bank

Alcon is also expanding its partnership with Plastic Bank in 2023. After preventing the equivalent of over 30 million plastic bottles from reaching the ocean in 2022, Alcon is expanding the partnership program with its Vision Care products to more than 90 countries.

Alcon has so far enabled the removal of almost one million kilograms of plastic waste from the environment. In early May, Alcon announced the expansion of its partnership with Plastic Bank - an organization that builds recycling ecosystems in underdeveloped communities to combat plastic pollution while providing collectors with a pathway out of poverty.

From 649,000 to 990,000 kilos

For every ton of plastic introduced to the market, Plastic Bank collects an equivalent amount of ocean-bound plastic in vulnerable coastal communities. In 2022, Plastic Bank removed more than 649,000 kilograms of plastic waste from the environment to offset the plastic used by Alcon for selected surgical and vision care products. Alcon aims to expand plastic removal to more than 990,000 kg in 2023. An equivalent to the more than 49 million plastic bottles that will reach the ocean this year.

Improving the lives of people living in poverty

Beyond the environmental impact, Alcon's partnership with Plastic Bank will support more than 330 collection communities worldwide in 2023. Collection members exchange the plastic they collect for life-enhancing benefits such as health insurance, food vouchers and school supplies.

Also minimize packaging and shipping materials

Charles Herget, Head of ESG at Alcon, said: "While single-use plastics are essential to the safety and comfort of medical devices, we strive to minimize their impact on the environment by supporting important initiatives like this program with Plastic Bank. Our hope with this continued partnership is to further promote the offsetting of waste with the products in our Surgical and Vision Care portfolio to have an even greater impact on our sustainability efforts. We will also continue to minimize other product-related plastics such as packaging and shipping materials."

Now also on Systane Eye Drops products

For its Vision Care products, Alcon offset its plastic footprint for DAILIES TOTAL1 and PRECISION1 in 2022, (more than 600,000 kg of plastic and the equivalent of 30 million plastic bottles). Building on these efforts, Alcon has expanded its offset program for 2023 to include Systane Eye Drops, which are sold in more than 30 markets, including Australia, Egypt, France, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. The D-A-CH markets (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) have also been included in the contact lens program.

More information about the partnership

Alcon's partnership with Plastic Bank complements the global eye care company's larger efforts to reduce waste, emissions and chemicals of concern associated with Alcon's products and services. For more information about Alcon's collaboration with Plastic Bank, visit https://plasticbank.com/client/alcon.

OPT-X.23 - Congress for Optometry and Optics

An important date that all players in the ophthalmic optics industry should make a note of in their agenda today: The OPT-X.23 conference program begins on Sunday, 17 September 2023 at 9 a.m. and ends on Monday, 18 September at 2 p.m.

The complete conference program will soon be available at www.opt-x.ch. The provider is the SBAO, the conference venue is, as in the previous year, the TRAFO in Baden. Registration deadline is September 5, 2023, attending the entire conference generates 6 credit points.

Clear price lists for spectacle lenses

The OPTIKSCHWEIZ association has announced that the cantonal authorities are currently investigating the enforcement of the Price Disclosure Ordinance (PBV) in the ophthalmic optics sector on behalf of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO. The police have already made representations to the first member businesses - in other cantons, the authorities are contacting them by post. To the surprise of the industry, SECO now also provides clear price lists for spectacle lenses.

Until now, it has been assumed that the prices for spectacle lenses only arise after the actual lens consultation and determination and must be clearly and verifiably communicated to customers before they make a purchase decision. OPTIKSCHWEIZ is currently working at full speed to examine the legal framework and create corresponding templates for members. Information on this will be provided shortly.
