Des lentilles de contact toriques inégalées

About half of people in need of visual correction suffer from astigmatism of ≥ 0.75 dpt1 in one eye, or even two. They often have a blurred vision, a limited perception of contrast and a reduced netteté. The solution: ACUVUE® toric contact lenses.

Minimal interaction with the lower part of the body also reduces the number of irreversible rotations**2.

Toric lenses like no other

Almost half of people who need vision correction have an astigmatism of ≥ 0.75 dpt in one or both eyes.1 They often experience blurred vision, limited contrast vision and reduced sharpness. The solution: toric lenses from ACUVUE®.

The high-quality ACUVUE® for ASTIGMATISM contact lenses impress with excellent wearing comfort and clear, stable vision quality2. They have a particularly thin rim and an integrated wetting agent3. Above all, however, they are the only toric contact lenses to offer the innovative eyelid stabilization design2.

This technology from Johnson & Johnson Vision uses the natural blink of the eye to fill the lens with
4 stabilization zones to keep in the correct position2. The lenses realign themselves with every blink of the eye and ensure consistent, clear and stable vision even with strong head and eye movements2. Thanks to minimal interaction with the lower edge of the eyelid, unwanted rotation is also reduced**2.

With ACUVUE® for ASTIGMATISM toric contact lenses, contact lens specialists can provide optimal care for their customers with astigmatism - with an average success rate of 95 % from the very first fitting***2.

Opti 2025: Innovation as far as the eye can see

In the Design & Frames areas of Halls C1, C2 and C3, Opti will be unveiling the trends for 2026, in Hall C3 the newly designed information, knowledge and networking heart of Opti will be beating, and in Hall C4 - for the first time - a joint area of nine leading contact lens manufacturers and opticians will be presenting the major benefits of lenses.

The biggest innovation is the bundling of four different theme hubs in the large, concentrated opti Hub Arena. (Image: GHM)

Design - New eyewear trends

In lectures, panel discussions and tours, eyewear trend researcher Selin Olmsted from New York will explain how materials, design and technology will determine frame trends in 2026. The basis for this is her current Eyewear Trend Report 2026, and she will also share her knowledge of the exciting world of augmented reality, virtual reality and smart glasses. New Opti Audience Award: For the first time, visitors to opti will be able to vote for their favorite frame. The version with the most votes will be honored with the "Opti Frame Star - The Audience Award". On the one hand, the audience voting will increase interaction between exhibitors and visitors, and on the other hand, it will provide a potential buyer trend with a rough indication of where the design journey will take us in 2025. New design: The Yes Area in Hall C1 with around 100 independent designer brands will once again underline Opti's strong design focus in 2025. A focus that is also reflected in the presentation of the fourth opti Box Award for the most innovative start-up in the field of frames. The chairman of the jury is the blogger and editor-in-chief of "The Optical Journal", Daniel Feldman.

Optics - The big innovation

In this area, Tomorrow Visivon in Hall C4 is a joint knowledge and presentation area for the contact lens manufacturers Alcon, Bausch + Lomb, CooperVision, Hecht, Hetych, Menicon, MPG&E, SwissLens and Wöhlk, who have set up their individual stands around the area. The aim of the area is to give opticians an understanding of the numerous advantages of contact lenses. For example, how they can acquire new contact lens customers, how they can serve existing customers with an even better service and how they can establish and expand the lens as a very profitable business segment. All relevant providers of refraction and diagnostics, as well as lens and machine suppliers, are also located in this innovation environment in Halls C3 and C4. This area is also innovative: start-ups and newcomers with innovations relating to artificial intelligence, software solutions, refraction, diagnostics and business consulting will gather in Hall C3 under the Opti Visionary label.

Knowledge - The information heart of Opti beats in Hall C3

The biggest innovation is the bundling of four different themed hubs into one large, concentrated Opti Hub Arena. The four hubs, Opti Future Vision Hub, Opti Myopia Hub, Opti Next Generation Hub and Opti Sustainability Hub, form a knowledge marketplace with the highest possible meeting potential for all Opti visitors. The topics covered at the hubs in the form of lectures, presentations or panel discussions range from eyewear trend forecasts, myopia therapy approaches and award ceremonies to the first nationwide vocational school teachers' meeting and speed dating offers for the next generation. Another advantage of the proximity: Interested parties do not lose any precious time between the individual events.

Networking among the visitors

The traffic to and in the Opti Hub Arena encourages communication and exchange between visitors, promotes networking, synergies and new ideas and, of course, the opportunity to do business. The Opti Runway Bar is also the perfect meeting and refreshment area. It is a brand-neutral networking touchpoint for all trade fair visitors and a venue for smaller events. Visitors can also exchange ideas with each other in Hall C3 at the Opti Next Generation Hub. This is also where the Opti Next Generation tours start for precisely this generation, which is still in training and - cleverly positioned - can obtain in-depth information about possible training and further education opportunities at universities, universities of applied sciences and other institutions in the adjacent Opti Campus.

Fun and enjoyment at the Opti trade fair

Last but not least, there will also be plenty of fun and partying at the Opti. In addition to numerous stand parties, there will once again be the legendary Opti Party on Friday, January 31, 2025 from 7 p.m. - as long as there is room on the dance floor.

Cathleen Kabashi, Exhibition Director of Opti, is already enthusiastic: "The core areas of Opti have always been optics and design, a third has emerged in recent years: networking, which has made us the information hub for the industry, a networking event, the first of the year, where industry, opticians and other industry experts meet and exchange ideas and, of course, do business. So it seemed only logical to focus innovation on these areas. Some of the many outcomes: a new design award, a new hub concept and Tomorrow Vision, the new joint knowledge platform of nine leading contact lens manufacturers."

VIU starts the new year with a sustainable vision

The Swiss eyewear brand VIU will continue to focus on sustainable innovation in 2025 and consistently pursue its goal of becoming the most environmentally friendly choice in the optical industry.

VIU switches production to Acetate Renew in 2025. (Image: www.shopviu.com)

At VIU, the focus is on gradually switching the entire acetate range to Eastman Acetate Renew, currently the most sustainable acetate in the eyewear industry. At the end of 2024, almost half of the collection was already made from this material - the transition to 100 % is to be completed by the end of 2025.

"Innovation is deep in our DNA. We are constantly looking for new solutions and materials - with the focus on being able to manufacture even more sustainable products," says Fabrice Aeberhard, co-founder and Creative Director of VIU. "Eastman Acetate Renew enables us to offer our customers high-quality eyewear with a significantly lower carbon footprint."

Why Eastman Acetate Renew?

Eastman Acetate Renew consists of 96 % sustainable components and sets new standards in the circularity of the eyewear industry. It is the first acetate in the world to be made from plastic waste and bio-based cellulose. Thanks to a revolutionary recycling technology, plastics that are difficult to recycle are transformed into a high-quality material that is functionally and qualitatively identical to traditional acetate - but with a carbon footprint that is up to 30 % lower.

A conscious start to the new year

To accelerate the transition and move even faster towards a more sustainable future, VIU is offering selected premium frames made from conventional acetate at reduced prices in January. The "Good Intention Offer" is valid from January 2 to February 1, 2025 in all VIU stores in the DACH region and online at shopviu.com.

Compared to the last edition, the organizers have set up around 1,000 additional square meters in the 7 pavilions of Fiera Milano Rho to ensure that everyone has the space they need to present their collections and innovations in the best possible way. Pavilion 6 has been expanded to house the Academy, Start-up and MIDO Tech areas, as well as a new green-inspired installation that reflects the distinctive style of typical Italian villages. Pavilions 2 and 4, the domain of Design and Design Tech, have also been given more space for innovation and the avant-garde. The installations and layout have also been renewed in the other pavilions: Pavilion 1 with its Fashion District, the realm of fashion and luxury, whose piazza will host the MIDO awards ceremony (on Saturday, February 8 at 5 pm); Pavilion 3, the land of lenses, from technology to innovation; and Pavilions 5 and 7, which will host FAiR EAST, showcasing the large and small companies of the Asian business world.

Completely redesigned, including the name, is The Vision Stage, the meeting place for eyewear professionals, innovators and visionaries. It offers a packed calendar of conferences, panels and workshops ranging from global trends and Made in Italy to sustainability and technological innovation.

Among the hottest events on Saturday, February 8, are two meetings on the theme of trends: at 11 am, journalist Alessandra Albarello will talk about Trends 2025, while at 12 pm, color designer Francesca Valan will hold a session on "The new dimensions of color". A press conference will follow at 1.30pm with the presentation of The Lens of Time, an ANFAO project that celebrates the link between innovation and tradition with an exclusive exhibition in the historic Palazzo Flangini in Venice. At 4pm, the plenary hall will host Breaking Optical Barriers: Women Who Conquered the Climb to Success, an event organized by OWA, the Optical Women's Association, and sponsored by MIDO on the contribution of women in the optical industry.

Numerous events are planned for Sunday, February 9, starting with a meeting at 11 a.m. on diversity, equality and inclusion, organized by ANFAO (National Association of Manufacturers of Optical Products). The guest of honor will be actor and author Paolo Ruffini, who will guide us through the world of inclusive language with humor and commitment. At 1pm, WGSN, the world leader in trend analysis, will present Future Consumer 2026, an analysis of the four consumer profiles that will define the year 2026. At 3pm, the event Sport and Vision: The importance of visual health in the practice of sports, sponsored by the Ophthalmology Commission, will bring another guest of honor to MIDO: former football player Alessandro (Billy) Costacurta, who will talk about the role of vision in sport.

One of the most eagerly awaited moments on Sunday at 4pm will be the presentation of Optical Monitor market research data developed by GFK for MIDO. This event will offer an exclusive look at consumer trends in key eyewear markets (Italy, France, Germany and the United States) and provide key insights for understanding global market needs and planning successful strategies. Sunday's events on the Vision Stage will conclude at 5pm with Shared visions: projects and prospects for integration between the optical and medical areas, organized by Fabiano Gruppo Editoriale in collaboration with ANFAO, ANFAO Lens Group, Federottica and MIDO. The aim of the meeting is to promote ongoing dialog between the players in the optical supply chain and the medical-ophthalmic field with a view to the future, while maintaining a healthy respect for their respective professional roles.

On Monday, February 10, the 11am session curated by ANFAO on sustainability with Anna Zandanel, who will analyze the role of ESG criteria in the eyewear industry, will be of particular interest. At 12 noon, a presentation by STEPIC Innovations 2026 on the 12 trends that will reshape the world in 2026 in terms of society, technology, environment, politics, industry and creativity will be presented by WGSN.

All ANFAO-sponsored events are presented and moderated by Marialuisa Pezzali, author and presenter of "Essere e Avere", the Radio24 magazine about consumption and the latest trends.

The Vision Stage will also host presentations and conferences curated by leading companies, publishers and trade associations. These events provide industry professionals with a comprehensive and detailed overview of the innovations, challenges and opportunities facing the optical industry. The full calendar is now available on the MIDO website.

Götti presents the new spring collection

Götti Switzerland presents Precious Objects, a new collection. Made from high-quality titanium and refined with gold, palladium or rose gold. Luxurious extravagance meets timeless light-heartedness.

Precious Objects - The Götti Switzerland icons. (Image: www.gotti.ch)

Precious Objects consists of a selection of titanium classics - the Götti Switzerland icons. Produced as an exclusive line with the highest Japanese craftsmanship and precious materials, you can feel the passion for wearable design objects here. A look at the smallest details reveals the true craftsmanship behind the filigree frames. A love of detail is required to turn the raw material into a luxury object. All work steps require full attention. Perfectionism is required down to the last detail.

Each element is pressed piece by piece from the highest quality titanium. This gives the material a unique stability and shape. A traditional technique that is perfected in the manufactory in Japan. The glasses are finished with a high-gloss polish and a metallic coating. A layer of precious gold, rose gold or palladium color is combined with the titanium. This ensures the perfect shine down to the last detail. The precious pieces of jewelry therefore impress with a finish of the highest quality.

It's the nuances that make the difference. It's all about proportions and harmony. Aesthetically and functionally, every detail is reduced to the essentials. This results in unique elegance and a noticeable lightness. A new way of combining design and innovation. This places the focus on precision craftsmanship. From the ingeniously curved temple end, which is carved from a single piece of titanium, the high-quality titanium nose pads to the screws, which have a Torx screw head for added elegance.

A fine brown gradient on the lenses, which are given a golden accent with a lasered "ö", creates a fashionable look. These precious objects are presented in a box containing a leatherette case, microfiber cloth, screwdriver and certificate of authenticity. The design icons for lovers of detail.

After eight years of dedicated and successful work, Johannes Zupfer, former Managing Director of CooperVision DACH, left the company at the beginning of January 2025 to take on a new professional challenge outside CooperVision. He handed over the reins to Andreas Sudrow, who has held key positions at CooperVision for many years and has extensive experience.

Under the leadership of Johannes Zupfer, the DACH team worked in partnership with specialist opticians, developed innovative solutions, expanded market share, helped the contact lens to become more visible and sustainably improved the customer experience. "We are sad to see Johannes Zupfer leave us after many successful years of collaboration and wish him all the best for the future," says Christine Chantrain, Regional Director BENEDACH at CooperVision. "At the same time, we are delighted to have found an experienced and committed successor from our own ranks in Andreas Sudrow, who will further intensify the collaboration with our customers. We look to the future with confidence and are convinced that, together with him at the helm, we will seize new opportunities to further strengthen our market presence in Germany, Austria and Switzerland," she adds.

These have included leadership positions in the Customer Experience department, sales and strategic partnership work for the EMEA region. "His clear focus on understanding and meeting the needs of customers will continue to drive alignment and partnerships in the DACH region going forward," says Chantrain.
